Marble and wood bathroom design. E-design proposal by Eleni Psyllaki My Paradissi

Remember this kitchen renovation e-design project I did a while ago for the new home of a lovely family in Belgium? I'm thrilled to share with you today yet another room we completed in their home, the master bathroom. If you see the before photos (scroll down to the bottom of this post) then you'll probably agree that this room was in a critical need for a new design, not only for the sake of aesthetics but also for functional and hygiene reasons as well.

Click after the jump for more details about the project as well as the 3d visualizations of the design proposal (the project is currently under construction).

THE CLIENT NEEDS

- double sink
- freestanding bathtub
- hidden toilet
- shower cabin
- tiles that hide the everyday use and dirt
- bring out the wooden ceiling beams and incorporate them into the design

THE CHALLENGE

To be able to combine all the above uses in a less than 7 m²  (75 ft²) space.

THE DESIGN SOLUTION

The layout

The bathroom was divided into two zones with the help of two short walls with glass panels. The first zone, the one you walk into as you enter through the door, includes the freestanding bathtub and the double sink while the second zone has the toilet and the shower.

The two zones are also defined by the different use of materials. Th first zone has white painted walls while the second zone has tiled walls.

The materials

We wanted to create a welcoming luxurious feeling with a spa vibe that is also kid-friendly and easy to use and maintain daily. The tile is a gray marble that is considerably forgiving to the spills and spots as it has plentiful veins and color variations. It is, on the other hand, a very chic material that, combined with the woods, gives a very elegant result. As I wanted to keep a continuity on the walls and floors there is only one type of tile in the room.

The sink cabinet, the ceiling beams and the shower tray are all a medium stained wood. The art frames and the stool are a lighter wood.

The fixtures and fittings are chrome which adds an extra touch of sheen and elegance.

The linen roman shade in the window and the plush white towels add texture and coziness.

The mirror

Since the bathroom is quite small, we decided to have a wall vanity mirror that extended to all sides as much as possible. The mirror is against the large window and that also multiplies the natural light in the room.

The wooden ceiling beams

The couple was very lucky to have these slim wooden beams on their ceiling which have been covered by a very ugly dropped ceiling (see before photos at the end of the post). They have been a top guidance for the whole bathroom concept and deeply inspired us towards the final design direction.

The storage

Since the couple has an extra storage room right next to the bathroom they were not in need of a heavy load of storage solutions. That was a big pro as it helped us keep the design as light as possible. The storage options in the bathroom are the sink drawers, the glass shelves above the toilet and a wooden stool to accommodate all the temporary bath necessities.

The lighting

There are two pendant lamps on each side of the sink and 6 ceiling fixtures placed on a grid between the wooden beams. The fixtures are quite minimalistic and in black, as I wanted to keep the focus on the other materials and not on the lamps. The black color adds a desirable contrast to the otherwise neutral palette.

E-DESIGN SERVICE

This is an e-design project I did for my clients in Belgium (which is in a whole different country than the one I live in). I never set foot on their property nor will I during or after the construction. And, that is the magic of e-design! To work with clients from all around the world by providing just the right design information for them to be able to create their dream spaces all by themselves or with the help of a local constructor. This bathroom e-design package included a concept moodboard, detailed 2d drawings, 3d visualizations and a shopping list with all the links to the products used so they can shop at their own pace. All information, conversations and deliverables were made via email correspondence.

If you like my style and aesthetics and wish to work with me on an e-design project for your home (or business) please don't hesitate to contact me with your request (wherever in the world you live in!).
*FYI, I am currently fully booked but I'll be happy to reserve a spot for you as soon as one opens up.
