Antiquities photos

We spent Clean Monday at a friend's house in a village an hour away from Heraklion. We had a a delicious seafood bbq, lots of music and dancing, kite flying and some unexpected sightseeing. Near the house lay the antiquities of Minoan Gortyna which are pretty amazing with all those old stone columns and the still standing walls in the middle of olive groves and fields. They are left in the open, anyone can visit them (considering the fact that you can actually find them in the middle of nowhere), no museum tickets or controls, just left there, vibrant and alive, amongst the nature and the animals, playing their unique part in todays lives. I understand that this might not be a good way to treat antiquities but it was such a powerful experience to wander around them with no restrictions whatsoever, holding on to their energy, watching the time standing still in front of your own eyes. If you ever come to Crete, just make sure that you pay a visit to ancient Gortyna.
