Happy Spring Equinox people!
I'm welcoming the larger days and the warmer weather with a really cool collaboration with
Etsy. If you follow along this blog over the years, then you probably know my deep love for this incredible shopping platform with the millions (yes, millions!) of unique handmade and vintage products (if you are new, then you can have a look at my
Etsy Mix and
Etsy Spotlight posts for a start).
Since my first post about an
Etsy store way back in 2011 I have been a blog advocate, an avid shopper and now a
proud seller on this platform. I love spending time in their huge database and scouting through the endless listings for treasures. Each and every time I come across a gorgeous mug, a pretty dress or an inspiring artwork I just skip a beat. Still. After all these years there are still treasures to be found since new products are uploaded daily.
What I really need to say for Etsy, though, is that I honestly appreciate how it brought crafters back to the spotlight and how it gave the opportunity to people that could not support themselves and families in other ways (like for example single moms, people who need to stay at home because of an illness, people with no funds to start a physical business etc) to start an online business. The idea to turn a hobby and a passion into a profitable job is something we take for granted today (like, how many of you have thought of doing it or already did?) but I truly think that Etsy was one of the pathfinders on that matter.
I adore the idea of our planet turning into one huge village, where the 'shop local' idea is getting wider and wider. Of course, I love supporting my neighbors and shop at my city's craft fairs but I also love to shop from people from all around the world. Now, this mug I get from Etsy, it has a story to tell, I get to know the creator, talk to them, learn how they work, their process, the materials they use, perhaps even make a custom order. It is personal, you see. I feel this person as my neighbor too. What if we live an ocean away?
So, for this post, I'm styling a day in my kitchen where I'm showing some of the products I've acquired from various Etsy sellers throughout the years. You will find the links for these products under each photo but, the deeper meaning of this post is to inspire you to go and seek for your own treasures yourself! Shop ethical, shop local, shop vintage and handmade, quality over quantity people! If you still need an idea on where to start browsing, feel free to check out my favorite Etsy stores
