Our kitchen is in the center of our house, literally and metaphorically, since we get to spend most of our time there. It is rather spacious compared to the overall sq.m. of the house and has a lovely view of the sea. Yet, it is not my favorite room as I practically inherited its design from my mom (who used to live in our apartment before us) and we do not intend to splurge on renovating it soon. The cabinets have this ok texture and these blah handles. There is a white dishwasher contrasting the rest of the inox appliances and one countertop is beige marble whereas the other (including the sink) is a white one. Although in parts it looks nice (the hand carved marble sink dating back in the 70ies, for example, is a gem and the terrazzo floor a true beauty) it looks disoriented and kind of boring. There are not many things I can do rather than exploit the power of gorgeous accessories.
The most obvious and smart strategic move I could do to uplift the design of the room was to use a really impressive pendant lamp above the kitchen table to steal the show and take the eyes off the rest of the decor. I had no second thoughts when I was contacted by The Maison Craft to try on one of their natural handwoven pendants. I had already been a fan of their work quite some time now and this pendant I got was a hit right from the beginning.
Made by Thai artisans in Panatnikom, this large bamboo pendant is not only impressive but also has this understated ethnic vibe that I love. Not too ethnic, not too craftsy, but more of a handmade designer piece with a great attention to detail. You can already tell by its woven texture how the light glows and all the shades created on the walls during the night. It's mesmerizing! What you can't tell however through the photos is how incredible material bamboo is. It is totally elastic and durable. I admit I was a bit worried whether it would arrive safely all the way from Thailand but it just came safe and sound and in a great shape (and way quicker that anticipated as well).
If you are on the lookout for a woven lamp then you should definitely pay a visit to The Maison Craft store. Apart from the one I'm showing you here, there are some great and unique creations (like this one and that one) that you can choose from. If you have any questions regarding my lamp, leave a comment below and I'll be glad to answer!
