Contemporary rustic home in Formentera

Contemporary rustic home in Formentera

I'm getting more and more into clean cut decluttered spaces as I grow old. As a matter of fact, minimalistic spaces with a rustic vibe are currently my soft spot. Quite frankly, nothing beats bare stone and concrete when used in contemporary architecture as they bring a natural element to the harsh often uninviting forms. I had no second thoughts to share with you when I came across this amazing home in Formentera earlier this morning. It is a renovated and extended house project by Marià Castelló and Daniel Redolat with the century old typical stone house serving as the starting point of the new impressive building. You can read more info about the project here or visit after the jump for some really inspiring shots ^^

My home, my paradise no.12

Neutral tones can work so well with country and ethnic styles! They keep an understated balance and can be so cozy and serene at the same time. If I were to design a dream home today here are some characteristics I'd add to it:

THE ROOM: Bathroom with checkers tiles

Image via jj Locations via Planete Deco.

Now, here's a way of tiling a bathroom that would never cross my mind. The diagonal placement of tiles on the wall looks exquisitely fresh and fancy and matches the identical checkers floor beautifully. Love that the darker tiles are a dark blue hue instead of black and that the tiles have a satin finish. The brass fixtures and the elegant bathtub complete the eclectic chic decor. What do you think? Love it or is it too much for your taste?

Moroccan rugs and textiles from SHOUF

Moroccan rugs and textiles from SHOUF. Photo ©Eleni Psyllaki for My Paradissi

What do you think of my new sofa throw? I admit I'm totally in love with it! I'm not sure if you can tell from the photo but it is amazingly sturdy and soft at the same time. It is exactly the kind of throw I've been looking for to protect my sofa from the everyday use plus it adds a sophisticated country touch to my home decor. It came all the way from Morocco from the new store, Shouf, by Pauline de Villiers Brettell. I have the pleasure to know Pauline quite some time now from her blog, Tea In Tangiers, as I follow her musings on my favorite country ever, Morocco. I was really excited to see her open an online place to sell authentic moroccan kilims, rugs and other textiles. Like, who doesn't want a gorgeous vintage Beni Ourain rug for their home straight from the source? Or, a colorful boucherouite brimming with an exquisite ethnic vibe? Pauline is kindly offering My Paradissi readers a 10% off throughout her store with code PARADISSI (valid until end of May). Go on, have a look here and stay in touch with her latest shop updates on facebook, twitter and instagram.

DIY: Jewelry holders

DIY: Jewelry holders | My Paradissi

I keep my jewelry in various small boxes tucked inside a drawer of my dresser. Not the easiest way to browse through my collection and choose the appropriate pieces for the occasion. That leaves me wearing all the same 3 rings and one necklace all the time. While looking for some pretty ideas to organize my jewelry collection and showcase my favorite pieces I came along these 6 cute and easy tutorials of diy jewelry holders. If you are in the mood for some crafting this weekend, and feel short of jewelry display, then this list might just be your thing too :)

Alemagou Greek tavern in Mykonos

Alemagou Greek tavern in Mykonos

Easter has come and gone (time does fly) and the weather is getting warmer each and every day. It's also been almost a year since my visit to Mykonos and San Giorgio hotel and I can't help myself from remembering how gorgeous it had been, how amazing that island actually is. I still beat myself for not getting the chance to visit Alemagou tavern in Ftelia beach, to spend some sunny moments under the thick reed pergola and take breaks from meze just to dive into the cool blue sea right next. For the time being, swooning over the following photos is almost enough to bring me into a chill out summer mode. Enjoy ;)

DECOR TREND: Sisal and jute rugs

DECOR TREND: Sisal and jute rugs | My Paradissi

I love rugs! They not only help define specific areas of the home but they also add texture and color into the space. When living in a warm country like Greece, however, things are not that easy when it comes to picking the right rug for your home. Reason is simple. In a 30oC temperature nobody needs wool or polyester under their feet.

Still, a rug is an irreplaceable accent of the interior design. So, instead of skipping having one in the home altogether, I find the use of sisal and jute rugs the best way to take advantage of all their benefits with a more summerish attitude. For the definition, sisal is a tropical plant originating from Mexico, that gives a sturdy and durable fiber which is commonly used for the manufacturing of rope, twine, paper, clothing and rugs. Similarly, jute is a soft vegetable fiber which is usually spun into long, strong threads.

The coarse, natural texture of a sisal or a jute rug brings a sophisticated country vibe to the decor and can be matched with various design styles, from contemporary minimalistic to more elegant and chic interiors (not even mentioning modern rustic, ethnic or cottage ones- it is absolutely at home in such environments!). A large rug can be used as a base for layering other rugs (like a cowhide or a vintage kilim) to create a visual interest and add even more warmth and texture for the colder months. Smaller rugs, runners or round shapes look awesomely pretty in bedrooms and bathrooms as well.

What do you think of natural fibre rugs? Own any of these or intend to buy one? Check under the jump for some serious visual inspiration and my favorite shopping picks!

Modern sophisticated houses on Syros island

It is this time of the year that I start drooling over gorgeous interiors in the greek isles. Easter is indeed a milestone to begin thinking about summer holidays; blue horizons and whitewashed surfaces, gorgeous terraces that overlook to the sea and contemporary interiors colored by the traditional greek architecture are what comes to the mind first. These two houses, designed by Block 722, are located in one of the prettiest cycladic islands, Syros, and are available to book for the summer. Now, aren't these chaises that overlook to the deep blue awesome? Follow me, after the jump, for a really gorgeous house tour!
