LOVE or NOT: Contemporary rustic minimalism

LOVE or NOT: Contemporary rustic minimalism

There is this fine line where minimalistic and rustic styles meet to create an astonishing result. I'm not sure there is a term such as contemporary rustic minimalism but, as you will see from the following images, it definitely fits the description. Stark spaces, a careful and sparse use of furniture and accessories, lack of colors which are mostly represented by neutral shades and the b&w palette, unrefined surfaces including reclaimed woods, unpolished metals, rough stone and sturdy concrete are some of its basic characteristics. The atmosphere is a blend between the masculine and often cold contemporary approach and the more welcoming and casual country vibe. Definitely not a style for the faint hearted (or, to be realistic, for most everyday types) but it is, for sure, one to study, inspire by and dream about. Would you try such a design in your home, given the circumstances? Or, is it just a bit too stiff for you?

THE ROOM: Floral bathroom

Floral bathroom | Image by Julie Ansiau via Yellowtrace

Now, please tell me, isn't this bathroom wallpaper simply awesome? It actually belongs to a small parisian café (you should check the whole place out- it's lovely!) rather than a house although I'm sure it would serve greatly as a home wc too. This is the only shot I could find of it but the round copper mirror and the tiny wall sink on the chic floral background spoke right into my heart. A true petite gem I dare say!

BUY OR DIY: Magazine rack

Magazine rack diy tutorial and buying source

Why bother diying when you can just have your own handmade copper magazine rack from ZanaProducts with just one click? Well, on the other hand, why pay that extra money when you can spend some time putting together your own copper & pine magazine rack following the tutorial by Fall For Diy? The choice is yours, friends. Which one would that be?

Open kitchen shelving inspiration

It's always inspiring to have a look at those beautifully prepped open kitchen shelves that go around the web, isn't it? Although (as mumbled about like a million times) I'm not sure I could cope with all that open shelving maintenance, I love to sneak peek on other people's kitchens for some ideas. So, here are some more photos of pretty kitchens to lust for. Enjoy! xoxo

Dark blue details in the bedroom

Dark blue details in the bedroom

It is fresh, sophisticated and a gorgeous alternative to our overly used black and gray tones. Talking about the dark blue hue, varying from navy, indigo or slate, that I've been eyeing a lot in various bedrooms lately. Love how even the slightest touch of that cool shade adds up to the eclectic vibe of the space and how brilliantly it matches a white background or natural and gray hues. A throw blanket, an accent pillow or even a linen bedding set (love this one and that one) is the easiest way to bring this tone in the bedroom, but, as you will see from the images below, painting an accent wall a dark blue shade is a great way to add a rather inspiring dramatic tone too. What do you think of this trend? Do you have blue accents in your bedroom or are you eager to get yourself one or two?

Choosing the Simply Luxurious Life

Reading in bed | Image via Trendenser

It is always a pleasure to get on my hands the book of a fellow blogger. Especially when it comes from a blogger I admire and follow for so many years now. This time, the book has is not about decor (or at least not exclusively) but an overall state of well being and quality of life. Choosing the Simply Luxurious Life: A Modern Woman's Guide by Shannon Ables, person behind The Simply Luxurious Life blog, is a book that deals with all those aspects of everyday life, from personal health and beauty, to home design and organizing, financial, travels and such; the things that help us create a luxurious environment to live in without having to spend a fortune to do so. If you have ever read Shannon's blog then you probably know her distinctive voice and the condense information held within her articles. Her book is one of those that keep you company on a daily basis, on your coffee table or nightstand and be there for you when you need that extra push or motivation, or just to make you daydream for a while. If you are on the lookout for an inspiring book, then I can't recommend it highly enough. And, while we're at it, don't forget to pay a visit to The Simply Luxurious Life blog as well :)

4 | I know, baby mobiles are usually colorful and fancy to catch baby's attention, but I can't help but love this minimalistic wooden cloud and raindrops one (GeraBloga, $35.02)
5 | The lighting fixtures of Worley's Lighting are simple yet creative and totally cool. Just like this one made of salvaged wood and metal (WorleysLighting, $70)

How gorgeous is the tile combination in this bathroom? The geometric blue pattern of the tiles behind the sink matches beautifully with the plain square white ones while the hexagonal tiles around the bathtub add an extra bit of texture and elegance to the decor. The brass fixtures complete the style just so seamlessly. Can't but adore the result! How about you?

The bright happy home of Jenni Li and family

House tour | Photo by Brittany Ambridge via Domino

When it comes to bright, cozy abodes, I go all weak in the knees. And, when I come across a place that looks so happy and easygoing I definitely have to share it with you. The three-story home of Jenni Li and Hans Gissinger in Cobble Hills has white wooden beam ceilings, wooden floors, large windows, cushy sofas, furry textiles, inspiring art and lots of pops of colors in a family friendly kind of way, all creating a really welcoming atmosphere for its inhabitants and guests. What I mostly dig about this home is its subtle rustic vibe, which acts as a wonderful background to the eclectic decor the owners have created. See the house tour, after the jump! xoxo

New Year working inspiration

Happy New Year, friends!
It’s been a while since I posted on this blog (you know why) and it actually feels a bit strange to start typing again. These past weeks have been an extraordinary new experience for me, which I literally can't have enough of. Despite the long sleepless hours and the anxiety of being a new mama, I feel that my heart is going to burst out of an indescribable amount of love!
Anyway, new year, new week, feels like the perfect time to catch up on some blogging rituals again. After all, My Paradissi is also my child and, truth to be told, I really missed it, as well and you, friends! I’d like to thank you all for the overwhelming love and sweetest comments about the arrival of my baby star, on this blog and social media. Your wishes mean the world to me :) THANK YOU A MILLION!
So, I'm starting off this new season with some home office inspiration. Let’s say, I’m setting off on the right foot for a prosperous and creative year to come (and getting some extra motivation from these amazing spaces). Happy 2015 all!
