AROUND CRETE: Lentas - Dytiko | My Paradissi © Eleni Psyllaki

Can't believe it's been a week since I last enjoyed this view from our vacation home in Lentas. Actually, with all the things going on around here lately, it sort of feels like ages ago that I swam into these crystal clear turquoise waters.

The above (and right below) photos are taken from the terrace of the house we were staying in (my uncle's summer home which he oh so kindly provided us for our honeymoon- thanks uncle and aunt ;) so you might as well guess that we did nothing more these days there that lay at the chaise with a book, solving crosswords (ultimate pre ipad fun) or just chit chatting. Oh, we also witnessed an astonishing full moon rise almost from the sea in the most wonderful deep orange hues.

We did a small car trip a day before we leave; a few kilometers away from Lentas, on the western side, lays a small harbor for the fishermen of the peripheral villages. We were alone at the beach. Can you imagine? A beach for ourselves; the ultimate summer bliss, I tell you, and a scarce thing to happen these days in Crete. Being a midweek day in mid September actually helped a lot on that (please, friends, if you ever consider of visiting Crete, do so in September. Less tourists and crowds and a still gorgeous summer weather).

After our private swimming session, we visited Sifi's Tavern over the Dytiko beach (photo above) and had a delicious homemade lunch while letting our eyes wander around all that blue and yellow around. We might have stayed there for an eternity, I don't know, but it seemed as there was no reason for us to leave. So peaceful. So calm. So balanced.

I might be repeating myself, but if you're looking for a chillout village to spend your summer vacation I couldn't recommend Lentas highly enough. I've been visiting this place every summer for the past few years and never get bored of it. Have you ever been in this part of Crete? Or any other favorite hideaway coastal villages you might have visited? I'd love to know!

P.s. Clearly, Lentas, fuels my inspiration a lot! Also, check out this nearby beach we visited last year.
