DIY: Concrete lamp

Diy concrete pendant lamp by Brit+Co

I'm completely in love with this concrete pendant lamp! This amazing industrial chic lamp is made out of concrete and the molds being used for casting are a couple of soda bottles, with the small one placed inside the bigger to create the void for the bulb. My point is that, with cheap and reclaimed materials and a great idea one can do wonders! Visit Brit+Co to see the detailed tutorial and good luck with your try!

P.s. These concrete votives are also too cool!

Folder: Bathroom

Modern ethnic bathroom with a sea view
I could have posted the entire house but I chose to emphasize on its bathroom instead. And you can tell why; a glass wall acts like an enormous window framing the gorgeous sea view, in a minimalistic kind of way. Can you imagine having a long bath in that bathtub?

P.s. Bathrooms with amazing tiles and an all white bathroom.

Unrefined kitchen inspiration

Kitchens with a rustic and industrial design. View more at www.myparadissi.com
Kitchens with a rustic and industrial design. View more at www.myparadissi.com

The kitchens I'm sharing with you today have an exquisite style. They are probably not the ones you'd pick for a mainstream family home as they are more blunt and upfront than practical and tidy. Don't get me wrong, however; I love these rooms and I'd be more than happy to incorporate such design in my summer house or, even better cabin. They'd look good in lofts and industrial spaces as well, with their distinctive rustic and unrefined essence. The open shelving leaves everything in plain sight, the white tiles add a sterile vibe that brings facilities and institutions into mind, whereas the natural materials like the rough, reclaimed woods and the wicker in baskets and bags, the glass jars full of edibles and legumes bring a down to earth feeling, which is exactly what I adore about them.
What do you think of these kitchens? Love them or not so much?

TR2 the rooms (and exciting news!)

Eclectic traditional greek house design by George Carabellas of TR2
Eclectic traditional greek house design by George Carabellas of TR2

The amazing floor tiles in this small greek patio are my way to announce to you, dearest friends, my new blog called Grecian Paradise.
After blogging here at My Paradissi for almost 3 years now, I felt it was high time I did something extra that will be completely dedicated to my country, Greece. I created a blog where I'll be hosting greek design, photography, places and spaces, food, music traditions and ways to have fun on this little Mediterranean country. Read more about its purpose here.
Don't worry, My Paradissi will continue its daily inspirational trips, just as usual, only from now on it will have a little brother, a greek one, and walk down the street hand in hand.

As for this patio, visit Grecian Paradise to find more of its whereabouts and how to visit it ;)

How cool would it be to possess a beautiful handcrafted object that has the power to protect you from ugly nightmares? I'm not sure if the legends come true but I'd be more than happy to hang one of these beautiful indian dreamcatchers by Zsófi Tóth over my bed. I just love the ethnic vibe of these sacred talismans with the colorful yarns around the hoop, the gemstones and the hanging feathers. You can find more at Zsófi's shop, PerpetUMobile.

Summer retreat, Vale da Raposa

Summer retreat in Portugal by Pequenina Rodrigues

I'm not gonna lie, I had second thoughts about whether I should post about this place or not. This summer hideout is designed by Pequenina Rodrigues and located in Vale da Raposa in Portugal. But most probably you already know about that because these photos are all around the web. And, I mean everywhere, flooding pinterest, tumblr, blogs and magazines. I even have posted some photos of it some months ago.

This is not your ordinary Feel Good Photo series, but a selection of some shots I took yesterday of these sweeter than sweet kittens playing at my man's family house. I watched these furry balls goof around, sleep, fall, taste and eagerly experience their environment and each other in a million hilarious ways. Yes, that really felt good ;)

Weekend inspiration

Moroccan patio
Moroccan terrace

Hello my friends, how are you?
A really anticipated weekend is finally here and I over excited with all the things we're about to do. This morning we're going to a kids book presentation and meet its little heroine, a cute puppy that this book was written after, catch up with friends for a refreshingly cold frappe under the hot sun and visit a dear couple at a village up on the Cretan mountains for some good, old folkloric fiesta all night long. Hopefully, on Sunday will go to the beach as well (that actually depends on the amount of the fiesta hangover as you can imagine).
Apart from that, I'm pretty excited about a new project I'm working on at the moment and I can't wait to show you. Hint: It's all about Greece. Stay tuned!
So, what are your plants for the weekend? Have fun, whatever you do! xoxo

DIY: Rope basket

DIY baskets storage

You most probably know by now my love of storage containers, especially the one you can make for yourself (see this, this and that). Jen of I heart organizing has created a really pretty and practical storage basket out of an old plastic one and some rope. The result is really professional, like you've bought it from a high-end home store and the size just perfect for plenty of uses. You can see the tutorial here.

Outdoors with an ethnic flair

Inspirations and ideas on how to create an ethnic atmosphere at your outdoor space. More at www.myparadissi.com

I have somehow connected the ethnic inspired decor with summer time. Maybe that's because the roots of this style come from warm places (see Morroco, India, Africa e.t.c.) and therefore destined to meet the hot climate criteria. This is the reason why I totally fancy outdoor spaces being treated with this kind of style. It just feels so right. If I you have an outdoor space and would love to add an ethnic flair to it, here are some tips to get you going.

Folder: Bedroom

I love how simple and straightforward this bedroom is. This shot feels cozy, invigorating and practical despite the complete lack of furniture. Or, to be more precise, the absence of ordinary ones. A mattress is all that is being used as a bed and an old reclaimed crate as a night stand. The geometrical patterned pillows, the designer lamp, the framed artworks with nautical influences and the impressive red floor are the details that add a unique character to this room.

P.s. This nightstand and this headboard.

Bougainvillea crush

Bright and beautiful bougainvilleas at www.myparadissi.com

If I had to pick one plant to fill Paradise with, then it would have to be a vibrant bougainvillea. It's like an eternal love story that's going on between us; I can spend hours just gazing at its colorful blooms and  the way it climbs up on walls and dresses up alleys and yards just fills my stomach with butterflies. I probably sound like I exaggerate a bit, but sometimes the wonder of nature deserves our gratitude and awe simply for its pure existence. I feel that the fuchsia, pink and orange blooms of a bougainvillea sparkle under the bright Mediterranean sun and I simply adore their contrast with the Cycladic blues and turquoises.
The last shot is from my very own precious bougainvillea I planted outside my house half a year ago. I chose an orange hue one but the poor guy is still so young and petite that makes a big difference with the brisk plants of the previous shots. I know deep down that it will soon grow big and bright and all its blooms will keep me company through my office window. Can't wait for that!
Enjoy, my friends, the following photos are here to brighten up your day =)

Vintage finds with a mid century twist by Kibster

Kim has such a great eye when it comes to picking the perfect vintage items from thrift stores and display them on her etsy shop, Kibster. They are sleek (as sleek as an aged item can be), chic and practical with  subtle references to danish and scandinavian design. I completely love the raffia suitcase in the top photo and the chrome orb lamp, both would be such a pretty addition to my home! You can also find Kim blogging here.

Honeymoon Petra, Santorini

Honeymoon Petra Villas,Santorini. Photo Christos Drazos. See more at www.myparadissi.com

I bet that it is this feeling of pure awe while looking at the very end of the blue horizon that makes the Aegean islands so beloved and popular. Santorini is well famous about that, the villas and villages, white carved rocks onto the harsh and stark mountains, as if ready to dive into the deep blue waters, release their existence from the burdens of  concrete life, something far more primitive and divine.
I got into a complete poetic mood while browsing through the photos of Honeymoon Petra Villas in Santorini. Its outdoors are beyond admiration; the small alleys, the undefined pergolas, the unexpected touches of green and the familiar cycladic curves are the best possible setting to enjoy the breathtaking view from.

Weekend inspiration

Stripe bed linens and shabby coastal decor
Coastal inspired styling

Hello, my friends, how are you?
It is extremely hot today here (it's literally more than 33o C) which makes me wonder why have I not hit the beach yet and let my spirit indulge into its cool sea waters? Rhetorical question, as I am about to as soon as I finish some things that lay on top of my todo list. Anyway, the weather is not going to change for the next many months (summer is here, yay!) so now it's time to balance summer pleasures with actual working on this really tempting island that I live in.
On another note, keeping the indoors fresh while the warm weather lasts is vital and a coastal inspired styling really helps to do so. Shabby woods, nautical stripes, crisp white linens and some beach keepsakes from previous vacation are only a few things you can use to create the feeling.
So, does it feel like summer where you live? I'd love to know!

Folder: Laundry

Coastal inspired laundry room
I've never had a laundry room in any of the apartments I've lived so far, but if I ever had one, it'd most probably be as fresh and bright as this one. I totally adore the blue appliances, the stripy rug and the seagrass baskets! The fitted bench looks practical as well (someone has to keep you company while getting done with the chores, don't you agree?)

P.s. Steal this look with this rug and this basket.

DIY: T-shirt plant hanger

Upcycle a t-shirt into a macrame plant hanger

A couple of months ago I shared with you a cutie diy on how to macrame hang tiny eggshell planters. Today, we grow bigger and hang the real thing (your average size planter that is) with this easy macrame tutorial by Walk in Love. Brooke upcycles a worn emerald green t-shirt for this diy and the result, as you can see, is totally awesome given the basic materials being used. See the step-by-step here (*update: seems that the link is no more working. Sorry about that..)
