A stroll around Rethymno, Crete

Thursday, January 17, 2013

I had the chance yesterday to visit one of my favorite cities on the island of Crete, Rethymno. Although, I didn't have much time to walk around its wonderful old town alleys, I still got the chance to snap a few photos for you. I love how it feels like living in a small village, the streets are narrow, you can clearly see the inhabitants prolonging their existence way pass their doorstep into the public area (lots of potted plants, old chairs and laundry are only an example) and you can even hear and smell the vibrance of this place. I hope you enjoy the photos and, please, if you ever visit Crete, make sure to drop by Rethymno even for a while!

  3. The most beautiful town in Crete! My son is a student there and he loves it! So many University students create a live cheerful atmosphere even in winter...

    1. Aww, he's a lucky guy! I know students in Rethymno have a great time! And, I guess, you should take advantage of that and visit him from time to time, right ;)

  5. So beautiful! This Summer we will have a direct flight between our little town and Chania, so I guess we could pack a few things and go!! Sometimes Ryannair is not that bad ;)

    1. Yes, it is a must! I know from the other way round, that direct flights are so hard to find from and towards Crete, thus getting off the island is more difficult and pricey than it should! xoxo

  6. So green and pretty! I can't believe it's so summer-like there. Thanks for the idyllic pictures! Greetings from Finland, it's -25 degrees Celsius and up north even more:-).

    1. The last few days were so spring like, we had more than 17 degrees! Now, it's raining again and that's the closest we get to wintery weather. I'd love to have some pure snow from time to time but that seems almost impossible here o.O

  7. Eleni you are so lucky to be living in Crete and surrounded by such authentic beauty.
But I think there are no more excuses for you. Your photography skills are great and mess can be covered with a cozy blanket, so this means I's love to see some pictures of your home, or at least the exterior, or your neighbor's home at least :)
    Have a bright Sunday!
