Sunday bliss (and a road trip)

Sunday, September 30, 2012

We took the car and headed to Youchtas mountain yesterday. It is a small mountain that, at a certain angle, looks like a leaning man's head (the myth speaks of Zeus sleeping there), next to Heraklion. We drove up until the middle of the way and then we went trekking. God, it feels so good to have your lungs filled with oxygen and the smells of thyme and sage. After we reached the top, we had a picnic with the company of the eagles and enjoyed the amazing view of the vineyards, the olive trees and the small villages that extended to the sea. In the second to last photo you can see the city of Heraklion laying next to the shore.
Such an invigorating trip it was!

Inspire the weekend

I have a feeling that this week went by like a flash. That, of course, can't be a bad thing as it means that weekend is here already. We're planning to go on a road trip with B, on a mountain next to our city, where we can enjoy the view extending far to the sea and inhale some cool oxygen. It's still really warm in Greece with no signs of chilling whatsoever, so a mountain visit will probably get us into fall mode easier than anything else.
What are your plans for the weekend? Hope you're having fun whatever it is that you do!

DIY: Golden paper mache bowl

I'm so thrilled to come across this amazing tutorial by Kelli Murray. Cheep, recycled materials meet precious golden leaves in a kindergarden's difficulty project and the result is simply striking! View the how-to here.

Warm whites

Is it just me or, natural tones on a white canvas feel really serene and inviting inside a house? If I could use a magic wand and transform my place for the day, I'd pick the hues used in the above photos; sugar whites and caramel browns, subtle beiges and warm wooden details with a dash of black just to balance the palette.
Oh, and, probably, I'd keep the bedroom for the rest of my life ^_^

P.s. More interiors white inspiration here, here and there.

A beach house at St. Barth

I finally give in and, since autumn chills and clouds have no intention to show up in Crete whatsoever, I'm sharing with you this amazing summer house at St. Barth and pretend that it is still June!
I love the in-line shutters framing the sea view, the sleek white surfaces and the spacious interiors, the breezy drapes and the wooden roof with the fans, all those details that promise a cool and invigorating stay there.
Join me for a mojito next to the pool, under the palm trees for a late September summer party ;)

P.s. Another impressive summer house by the sea.

Inspire the weekend

Between newborn arrivals (I have a nephew, hooray!), working schedules and family dinners, I admit I'm so fond of this, still hot September, weekend. I got myself a few yarns to start a new knitting project and I plan to rent a couple of dvds for a movie night in (any good suggestions?). Hopefully, I'll stay away from the screen for as long as possible =)
What are your plans for the weekend? Hope you have a beautiful one, one way or another! xoxo

Chris Warnes photography

I spend a long, long time in Chris Warnes portfolio, browsing through his photos, being totally  impressed by the light and the vibrance they have. I would actually love to live inside each one of the above shots, the feel like a crisp and energizing Saturday morning!
